Skin care tips

[su_quote cite=”Audrey Hepburn” url=”http://quotelicious.com/famous/audrey-hepburn-quotes/audrey-hepburn-quote-3″]There are certain shades of limelight that can wreck a girl’s complexion.[/su_quote]

Whilst we know that inner beauty is more important than outer beauty, we all still like to look as good as we can. There is so much information available now about how best to maintain youthful skin, it can be confusing. To simplify it; there are a few basic things not to forget:

  1. Use a sunscreen daily, even if you are not expecting to be out in the sun
  2. Drink water and eat healthily (we don’t really need to tell you this)
  3. Adapt your skin care routine to suit your lifestyle and your budget

If you are always in a hurry remember the:

Skin care essentials

  1. Cleanse with a product suitable for your skin type
  2. Moisturise
  3. Apply sunscreen every morning

Additional steps depend on individual concerns, which may include sun damage, and skin ageing, and pigmentation problems.  Acne and oily skin is another common issue, even for adults.

Our simple approach to these common skin problems involves 1 or 2 steps in addition to those in our “skin care essentials”.

For rejuvenation of sun damage and early skin ageing:

  1. Apply an anti-oxidant vitamin C serum after cleansing
  2. In the evening apply a retinoic cream or AHA (glycolic or lactic acid) product

Pigmentation

  1. Apply a fading cream containing inhibitors of pigment (melanin) synthesis e.g. hydroquinone
  2. In the evening apply a retinoic cream or AHA cream – to promote new skin cell growth

Acne and oily skin

  1. Cleanse with a non-irritating product (harsh cleansers worsen acne). Specific acne cleansers containing salicylic acid etc. may be helpful
  2. Use a light moisturiser and sunscreen
  3. In the evening apply a retinoic cream or AHA cream – to reduce comedone formation
